Melissa Marr on dark fairies and wicked choices

I just finished INK EXCHANGE, the companion novel to Melissa Marr’s 2008 RITA winning book WICKED LOVELY, and was blown away. The book is dark, edgy, violent, and powerful. Sharing with you a great YouTube video of Ms. Marr speaking about real fairies and writing her books:

Favorite quote from Ink Exchange (p326):

What does it mean when nightmares dream of peace? When shadows wish for light?

You liked it then? Given that this is a YA how do you think it compares to Twilight saga?

I love the quote you chose, I almost picked that one for my review.

As for your comment on how Irial had sex with Leslie with her out of her mind and how that should have been addressed – well the whole relationship between Irial and Leslie is one where there was no consent whatsover – worse than the sex was the Ink Exchange in my opinion – she was stripped of any choice and this is why that relationship was so disgusting and disturbing. Having said that, it all the more powerful that Leslie fought it and that Irial was changed by HER as well. Such an amazing book.

Ok, I’ve been – not exactly resisting reading these, but fantasy is usually just not my thing – but these are looking better and better. I have a still have a Powell’s giftcard somewhere…I want in this discussion!!!

I really need to move this to the front of the line. I’ve had it way too long! :)
