Desert Island Keepers

Because who doesn’t adore best book ever recommendations? I can’t pass a bookstore without scoping the romance section, but once in front of the shelves I become a deer in the headlights. Tooo many books. Can’t make decision. So I obviously adore recommendations. They let me satisfy my burning desire to buy more books, while making sure I don’t waste my time or money on bad ones.

A number of romance blogging gals had a Desert Island Keeper (DIK) fest yesterday: KristieJ, Sula’s, lisabea’s, CJ , Christines, Katie(babs), Sarai, Shannon, and Tracy. My Internet was not cooperating yesterday to crash the party, so I’m simply going to post a Thursday Thirteen of my personal romance DIKs today. And of course buy all the DIKs from these girls’ lists that I haven’t read yet! Baby, can’t get enough of good books.

  1. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
  2. The Spymaster’s Lady by Joanna Bourne
  3. Once an Angel by Teresa Medeiros
  4. Demon Angel by Meljean Brook
  5. The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn
  6. This Heart of Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
  7. By Love Undone by Suzanne Enoch
  8. Shadow Touch by Marjorie M. Liu
  9. You Slay Me by Katie MacAlister
  10. The Immortal Highlander by Karen Marie Moning
  11. Someone to Watch Over Me by Lisa Kleypas
  12. Wicked Deeds on a Winters Night by Kresley Cole
  13. Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith

I don’t think you have to worry about a couple of those :) I know that someone is already bringing The Outlander, Demon’s Angel and The Spymaster’s Lady - so you get to pick three more!!

  2. Tracy Says:

Yay! we now have Karen Marie Moning represented! Great list!

  3. Nicola Says:

Seriously? No JR Ward? No Jacqueline Carey? I don’t know WHAT you’re thinking….

  4. Carolyn Jean Says:

Some great additions! I’ve been wanting to read some more Marjorie Liu. Welcome to the island!

  5. Sarai Says:

Welcome to the island, Ciaralara! Great list… I see you plan on smuggling a few extra books in, too! Love it!

Nicola–not to worry! Ward was completely covered in the first set of five island castaways. ;)

I guess I figured someone else was already bringing the entire BDB series. 8) the karen moning book I love is the HEA of Adam Black, who is the antagonist or a secondary character in all the earlier books. He is awesome and has a huge transformation, making his HEA oh-so-very scrumptious. Not to mentionthe book is hawt. Mmmmm. I must go back and reread it now. Adam- I want to have your babies!!!

Marjorie Liu is a gifted writer. I need to read more of her work.

This will be a fun party! I’ll bring the tequilla. Who’s bringing the cabana boy? I vote for borrowing Nathan Kamp from KMM. Yum!

  9. ciaralira Says:

Nicola- I’ve never read j Carey. Can you please recommend one of her books to start with? Thanks!

  10. Sarai Says:

Well I know that CJ and others are shoving Kushiel’s Dart at me (my friend is literally shoving it down my throat) But JC has others out there. This series tends to be the one that everyone loves ;0) if that helps!

  11. MaryKate Says:

    Yay! Welcome, Ciaralira.

    Hi,

I just found your blog which I am perusing and enjoying. I have my own which I just started posting to again. I noticed in my perusal of your blog that you have an interview with Hank Philippi Ryan and also were offered advanced copies of Heyer novels…. How envious am I?! May I ask how you managed to these coups? I’d love to review advanced copies and do interviews…Any advice?

    Very much enjoying your blog!

    Best,
    Jemima

Jemima - I would ask KristieJ or one of the other gals how she gets ARCs and interviews, as I’ve only interviewed 3 authors so far and, while I’ve received 3 free books, haven’t scored an ARC yet. Except for Linda Wisdom, who is my husband’s cousin, the other authors contacted me through their publicist. I would imagine that if you email authors, especially emerging authors, they would be happy to talk on your blog. It’s free marketing for them. But again, ask one of the bloggers who has more experience. Good luck!
