The Black Dagger Brotherhood
Series Title: The Black Dagger Brotherhood
Author: J.R. Ward
Publication Info: Penguin Group
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Rating: <3 <3 <3 <3
So why haven’t I been blogging this past week? I’ve fallen head over heels in booklust with J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. Could. Not. Put. It. Down. Fantasized about it when trying to sleep. It sucked me in like Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander Series did, and OMG I want MORE. The problem with fabulously addictive series like this is that I feel bereft when I finish the last book. I’ve spent every waking moment reading and dreaming about the characters, and then all of a sudden it’s over. I’ve lost my lover. I simply cannot wait for the next book to come out. June? Freakin’ far away.
I wouldn’t recommend this book to just anyone, however. It’s violent. Even more so than Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series. Also, the series got more violent and incredibly kinky as it progressed. If the first book had been as crazy as the fifth one, I don’t know that I would have read the rest of them. The third and fifth books had heroes who had been terribly abused in the past, and both were attracted to pain as a result. Squicky. Fortunately Ward stressed that the two people involved LOVED each other. Whatever floats your boat.
I really liked the unusual dialog and thought the writing style was awesome. I live under a rock and have NO idea how real bad boy gangstas talk/act/dress. So the hang up Smart B*tch Candy had with the series didn’t register for me. I had some problems following all the slang and acronyms. It took me five books to figure out what POS means. Like I said, I live under a rock. And all the extra “H”s got tedious.
I agree with the Smart B*tches that Butch and Vishous would have made a great couple. The boys had more sexual chemistry than the chicks they ended up with.
Mythology: always my favorite part. In this series Vampires are a separate species from humans – you’re either born one or you’re not. (except in special circumstances.) Vampires must drink the blood of a vampire member of the opposite sex to survive. Human blood is too weak. Vampire puberty hits around age 25, after which the vampire must drink blood and can no longer go out in the sun. Many die during the transition. Males transform overnight into giant muscle-bound bad-asses.
Male vampires bond with their lovers by marking them with a special scent. Bonded males are hella aggressive and over protective. Female vampires are only fertile once every ten years, and many die in childbirth. I would love to read an essay on reproductive mythologies in paranormal romances. Christine Feehan’s Dark Series has a similar high child mortality for vampires, with an accompanying drastic shortage of female vampires.
The vampire mother goddess is the Virgin Scribe. Her evil opposite is the Omega, who creates an army of undead humans (lessers) to kill off the vampire species. The purpose of the Black Dagger Brotherhood is to protect civilian vampires from this evil threat.
Book 1: Dark Lover
The story of Wrath, the Chief.
Brother Darius asks the head of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Wrath, to help his half-human daughter Beth through her transition. Wrath refuses, but when Darius dies in a car bomb Wrath decides to honor his brother’s last wish. Beth has been brought up in foster homes and knows nothing about either her parents or vampires. Wrath inducts Beth into the Vampire life while the lessers start kidnapping and torturing civilian vampires. Wrath and Beth fall in love. Wrath decides to ascend the throne, a position he avoided for the last few centuries to the detriment of the vampire population, with Beth as his queen.
Book 2: Lover Eternal
The story of Rhage, the Charmer.
Brother Rhage’s charming male-slut persona is a cover for his darker side – a dragon lives within him. His biggest fear is that the beast will break out and hurt the vampires he cares about. He meets Mary, a human, one night when she shows up at the secret brotherhood compound as a translator for a mute pre-transition male vampire, John. (Neither Mary nor John know about vampires at the time, and their memories are wiped clean after the brothers interview John.) Rhage can’t get Mary out of his system, and he’s not the only one – the beast wants her too. Mary is dying of cancer. They fall in love. Rhage must bargain with the Scribe Virgin for their future.
Book 3: Lover Awakened
The story of Zsadist, the Lost Soul, and the only brother missing an “H”.
Zsadist, kidnapped at birth, spent a century as a blood slave, where his humanity was stripped through repeated rape and torture. After his twin brother Phury saved him and he joined the brotherhood, he is still a mean MoFo who scares everyone and everything. Then one day he meets the vampire Bella, who, the-Virgin-only-knows-why, is attracted to him. When she gets captured by the lessers, he saves her and she works down his barriers until he can’t help but make love, sweet love, to her. He needs some serious psychiatrist action, but a little sexual healing goes a long way. The lesser who captured Bella and becomes obsessed with her is one sick f*ck. He makes Zsadist look a-okay boyfriend material. This book is Very Violent. Zsadist reminds me of Zarek from Sherrilyn Kennyon’s Dance with the Devil. Is there some unwritten rule that Lost Soul characters need to have names that start with “Z”?
Book 4: Lover Revealed
The story of Butch, the Warrior.
Butch is a human ex-cop who got thrown off the force for being overly aggressive with a suspect one-too-many-times back in book one. He gets adopted by the brotherhood, despite his human status, and falls in love with Wrath’s ex-wife, the virgin vampire Marissa. Marissa is thrown out of aristocratic vampire society and vows to live life on her own terms from now on, which gives her the freedom of loving the blue-collar human. Butch has always been an outsider, and when the brotherhood discovers that Butch has a vampire ancestor he opts for turning, despite the high chance of mortality. Butch and Marissa have some ansty self-esteem issues, but they figure them out eventually. You’re too good for me. No, you’re too good for me. No, you are. No, you.
Butch is a character that I didn’t really get, maybe because he kept changing his personality. Once adopted by the brotherhood, the blue-collar ex-cop jumps into Gucci like it’s going out of style. I had no idea who most of the brand names he wore were, and though I live under a rock, I did go to an ivy league school. A fashionista I am not.
Book 5: Lover Unbound
The story of Vishous, the Professor, and the bisexual bondage lover. Oh, brother.
This book had at least three major story lines going on, not counting the subplots. It is the weakest of the books, but I’m so committed to the characters and story by this point that I don’t care. I. Need. To. Know. What. Happens.
The lessers take a vacation while the great vampire mother gets her virgin sacrifice crazy-megalomania on. Vishous is in a funk: His future-telling powers have dried up and he is in love with his mated roommate, Butch. He lets out his frustration with a little, ahem, S&M. After getting shot, he ends up in a human hospital and falls immediately for his human surgeon. This is silly. It should take him a little longer to fall in love with her personality, not just her body smell. The Scribe Virgin shows up and announces that she’s his mommy-dearest and that he must now marry 40 virgins and procreate for the good of the race. Getting weirder? Um, yeah. It gets worse, but I don’t want to ruin the ending for you.
Book 6: Lover Enshrined
The story of Phury, the best friend.
Brother Phury, who spends his life trying to take care of everyone else, steps up once again when he volunteers to take Vishous’ place by marrying the Virgin Scribe’s Chosen. I can’t wait till this book comes out in June.

Ahhh, another BDB convert. Welcome to the club! We’re in the home stretch for Phury’s book now. It’ll be here before we know it. Lookin forward to it as well. ;)

OMG, I just finished the first book and I cannot wait to read the others. It has such a good premise and I liked the fact that their world was somewhat separate from the human world so they kind of played the “hero” and not the villan. I thought the story of Wrath and Beth was so beautiful. I could easily re-read these books in the future which is not something I do very often. Nice job J.R.
March 6, 2008 at 11:05 am
What’s your favorite BDB book so far?
March 6, 2008 at 11:15 am
Either the first one or the second one. I really liked Rhage… but probably the first one. Wrath and Beth make an awesome couple, each completing the other, each helping the other be all they can be. I can’t wait till they have babies….but Ward wrote in her character interviews that Wrath wants to wait a hundred years before they have kids. So I won’t hold my breath!
March 23, 2008 at 2:16 pm
My favorite is Lover Unbound. Vishous is everything I had always wanted in a man. He is addicting, I can’t get enough of him. I keep reading that book over and over and over. I like Rhage and Zsadist as well but nothing like V.
Does anyone else jump in extasy everytime that a brother screams the word MINE in his brain? Oh man, I do.
March 24, 2008 at 11:41 am
“Does anyone else jump in extasy everytime that a brother screams the word MINE in his brain?”
That plus all the growling turns me on. I love that they growl at people and say MINE. It’s one of the main reasons I loved these books.
I also love the fact that these vampires aren’t “bad”. I’m so sick of vampire books where they’re damned and souless and don’t want to condemn the woman they love to an eternity of blood drinking. The biting is the reason we love vamps!!
I’m glad J.R. wrote a new kind of vampire. The only downfall is they can’t turn us humans into them. If I was Mary (from RHAGE’S book)I would want to be a vampire not a human with infinite life .
March 24, 2008 at 1:34 pm
I read a lot of books where the hero growls MINE… but yeah, I like it too.
I’ve also read quite a few books where the vampires aren’t bad – just misunderstood. ;) You MUST read Meljean Brook’s Demon series: http://www.meljeanbrook.com/books.html The vampires aren’t emo and the storyline and characters are AWESOME.
March 24, 2008 at 6:37 pm
I am in LOVE with these books. I cannot wait to see how Ward is going to play out Phuy’s story since it sounds like he’s becoming a junkie. The first one of the series I read was Lover Awakened(which is still my favorite of them all), and I couldn’t even think of reading another book until i finished the series. I have a thing for “tortured heroes”, so of coursed I loved Vishous’ story almost as mush as Zsadist’s. I can’t wait until we see Tohrment again(I REFUSE to believe he went to the sun!)
March 26, 2008 at 8:52 am
Good looking out, ciaralira! I’ll definitely check those out.
To Kee:
I read all the books in order, but damn if I didn’t instantly fall in love with Zsadist the second he is brought into the story in DARK LOVER. I knew he was going to be my favorite when Wrath described him. I believe he said Z was a “violent F*** you to the world” or something close to that. And I was like Yep! thats going to be my guy…. I’m all about the tortured hero with crazy issues. Zsadist is easily my number one brother.
I’ll just make my list of favorites..
1. Zsadist
2.Vishous(Though I cannot stand Jane. She was the main reason I didn’t like his book. That and the ending.)
3.Rehvenge(I’m so excited about his book which is after Phury’s!! J.R. said that he is going to be in Phury’s book a lot.)
4. Rhage
5. Wrath
6. Butch
7. Tohrment
8. Phury
9. John Matthew

Does anyone have any thoughts on Lover Revealed?? That’s next up for me and I can’t say I’m looking forward to it. The cop just never intrigued me. So far he just doesn’t have that rawness to his personality that the other guys do.
I too refuse to believe Tohr is gone. However, being a Potter fan as well, I also believed Sirius was going to come back as well…so we’ll see
March 28, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Lover Revealed might have been the weakest book, if only because the hero and heroine are not as compelling as the other books. There have also been some complaints that Ward breaks her world-building rules in the book (vampires are born, not made). But, the book is still crack. I’m addicted to the series – and I’ll read every one she puts out. :)
March 30, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Hi there. I’m also a BDB fan…I’ve read the 1st book and I loved it, so I ordered the others and I’m completly addicted…can’t wait for Phury’s book…
I liked all the books, if you think about it, they all make sense in the “universal world” created by the author. But yeah, Zsadist is also my favourite!
To Sunny: J.R gave an interview and she says Thor is really going to have a story, so relax! She also said there’s 10 books scheduled since the beginning, so, besides Phury, at least 4 more are coming!
March 31, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Whoot! That’s good to know. Thanks, Sonia!
April 3, 2008 at 8:40 am
Awww…with all this love in the air at the BDB mansion, what about poor Fritz?? ha
Maybe that will be book # 9…haha…
Yea, I’m wasn’t too thrilled when JR broke the rules for Butch.
April 3, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Hello!
Well, I don’t know about Fritz :), but according to JR, book #7 will be Rehvenge’s story… and the other three probably Tohrment, JM and Payne. This was what she said in an interview. Let’s see what happens!
About Butch…actually I kind of liked it that he became a vampire…in a way, it helped to “tidy” things, you know what I mean? He was already a vampire by heart, right?…
What’s amazing is the way she makes them all look real, so anyway JR creates their lives is good! Can’t wait for Phury…
April 11, 2008 at 6:57 am
Hi,
In case anyone is interested JRWard has stated that the number of BDB books is now “OPEN ENDED”. Yes !!! We will probably see more than 10 books.
And don’t forget, the BDB Compendium is due out this October.
All you “Z” fans will love this as it will have a short story about “Z” and Bella. Also, if I am not mistaken, there will be a “blessed event”.
Take care BDB fans,
Michele

Yes, they are ridiculously addictive. I hope she (JR) keeps up the good work…
April 19, 2008 at 4:51 pm
oh yes that they are.lol… how many books are there going to be exactly?!
hmmm i think johns story will get told and that doc from the hospital..
is there anyway that we here can mail each other? if some ppl would like to because i would love that!!
April 19, 2008 at 4:53 pm
i read in a different forum that some ppl thought it was not fair that butch became a vampire…. that the rules got bent for him… but they didnt really did they.. becuase he has got some of wraths blood in him he just didnt go through the transitition which you dont really have to do if you’re a hlf blood.. so i dont think the rules got bent at all!! what do you guys think?!
April 19, 2008 at 4:59 pm
ok so i’m writing loads of things after another but never mind ^^
i’m also one of the gals that get all excited when the word “mine” appears or that the growl was let out oooor the bounding scent.. it gets me very excited and i grin aaaaaaaaaaall the time *g* i wish every guy would do that.. sounds absoultly exciting ^^
April 20, 2008 at 5:58 am
Hi Brina!
I so agree with you on Butch’s thing…It’s good for him to be a vampire…even before they knew he had Wrath’s blood line, he was already showing some vampire characteristics, right?
This series are great…but it seems to be taking ages to Phury arrive lol
April 21, 2008 at 9:03 am
huhu
yeah.. he was excepted into the inner circle.. and he just fit right in didnt he..
oh who else was confused at first with the john situation?! at the beginning i just couldnt find out why he felt certain things.. but then al of a sudden it clicked!! i am really hoping and looking forward to his story!!!! that is going to be very wierd… not just for him but also for beth i reckon.. and i really want to learn more about v’s sister… seems like she has thier fathers side in her more than v..
yeah i know what you mean… i cant wait for phurys book to come out either… so i’ve decided to start reading the other books again ^^
April 22, 2008 at 4:56 am
Well, JM surely has a tough path on his way…I mean, with all the issues about his sexuality and so on…
I’m also very curious abot Manny’s role in the series…do you have any ideas about him?
Yes, I ‘ve re-read all the 5 books by now at least three times and ocasionally I read the parts I enjoyed the most! It’s really addictive!
Take care.
Sónia*
Ps: Just 42 days until Phury!!
April 22, 2008 at 5:10 am
I have a question = the BDB is addictive, but WHY? What makes the story so vivid, so enthralling? What makes the writing unique? Why does it work? Is is the writing style? The gangster dialog? The mythology? The character transformations? The story arc? The archetype characters? Are we simply attracted to bad boy heros, and these are the baddest bad asses around? Why do the last two books still suck in the reader, even though no one seems to like the main love stories and heroines? I shall have to reread them and annotate. Thoughts? This might be a topic for a new blog post.
April 22, 2008 at 6:28 am
Hmm…why are they so addictive?? I’ll give it a shot but to be honest I’m still trying to figure it out.
1) Unlike many romance novels where you have a hunk who is madly in love with the most beautiful girl around…in BDB these guys can have any woman they want yet they are drawn to these 5 women for various personal reasons. You get a great sense of the loyalty, devotion, and love that these brothers wholly submit to their shellans. Love as opposed to lust.
2) The world JR has created is quite fascinating. The history of the Brotherhood, the society, and reclusiveness all make it seem like you’re getting an inside look.
3) Even though we know in the end the hero always ends up with his mate, somehow we keep reading just so we can see how this female will transform him. To me, the book that did this the best was Lover Awakened (so far).
4) These guys are completely hot and the idea that they could end up with “normal” girls like us excites us all…
April 22, 2008 at 1:07 pm
i agree with you sunny.. but have also got my thoughts on this…
i love the fact that the vampires arent these monsters like in most other stories.. they are more “human” and the story is part of our world..
and i totaly agree with you on the bad boy thing.. *lol* its just too inviting..
everyone of the brotherhood has got thier own history.. and lets face it the history is not good.. but makes them more bad ^^ but then i love the fact that these bad guys fall in love.. and find thier mate.. the one and only mate for them.. the women in the series are also important i think.. they brought warmth and a family atmosphere to the brotherhood.. in the beginning it was like the guys were together yeah but not really together.. but as each story unfolds they come closer together and realise how important this is for them.. and i personaly feel like they get stronger with this.. and i mean come on z’s story was one of my favs.. but then again i couldnt say which one is my fav because every book has got something going for them.. i justs couldnt choose ^^
i want to know more about v’s sister and this doc… what is up with these two ppl?! i’m sooooooo nosey… i want to know i want to know ^^
who would you guys like to find out more about??
hmmmm well v called him brother didnt he?! mannys the doc in the hospital where jane worked right? so many names in my head.. plus the fact i read the last four books in four days and it kind of all merges together.. lol.. but i dont know how that could be… hmmmmm maybe v’s father had something with a human?! or the scribe virgin had triplets?! that would be interesting.. lol…. anyone else got any ideas about this?!
April 23, 2008 at 5:46 am
To me, BDB is addictive because the author created a world with rules diferent from the “human” ones and the heroes and heroins are also diferent. They don’t have to react in human way, but still there are similarities and it’s easy for us to like them, to understand some of their choices.
JRWard has the ability to write well and that is also half way to make a good story. Obviously, some things we like, others we don’t, but that’s part of the game, she can’t make everybody happy all the time, and believe me, there are some moments I also didn’t especially like… But in the end, it’s our enjoyment that counts, and when I’m reading her books, I even feel I wish I could meet them, be part of that world…isn’t that one of the biggest compliments you can do to a writer?
Anyway, that’s just my opinion…
I don’t think Manny is SV’s son…perhaps Butch’s brother or what if he’s going to be V’s sister mate?
April 23, 2008 at 7:01 am
hi
i like the idea with manny maybe being vs sisters mate.. but he did get the word brother in his head.. or maybe not brother in that sense.. maybe brother as in brotherhood brother… but then again rules would be broken for him…. hmmm we’ll just have to wait and see…
April 23, 2008 at 10:39 am
yea i thought he meant brother as in brotherhood as well.
- also, anyone have any ideas on how phury is going to get out of his fate? i mean, Cormia may be a sheltered woman but she’s still a woman and I can’t imagine any woman in love wanting their mate to be with tons and tons of other women as well.
April 23, 2008 at 10:44 am
I imagine he’ll probably take a stand (finally) and force the Scribe Virgin to allow him to marry Cormia and only Cormia. Rather than having one stud for her stable of chosen, the SV will give the girls the freedom to chose their own mates by the end of the book. It’s the obvious story arc, and allows transformations for the SV, and the chosen, and Cormia, and Phury, and probably Leela too. But who knows? Maybe JR will surprise us.
April 23, 2008 at 12:58 pm
I think I’d rather John Matthew end up with Layla over Xhex….
April 23, 2008 at 2:18 pm
i think johns going to end up having something with xhex.. its obvious ^^ but i dont see him mating her for example.. but we will have to wait and find out huh :) i agree ciaralira.. he might well surprise us..
are there going to just be 10 books or a minimum of 10??? or does anyone else know more?
April 24, 2008 at 12:37 pm
If JM ends up with Xhex, I’ll be disappointed…I surely would rather see him with Layla, and to redeem himself from that bathroom scene :)
JR Ward said in an interview that now the series are open ended, so perhaps there will be more than 10 books!
April 24, 2008 at 3:53 pm
i agree with you on that.. i think they might have aling or something but i reckon they wont mate or anything like that…
so what do you guys think about john? who is he? just d’s son?! because i think he’s d… because of the memories and the way he feels sometimes…
iwater runs together in my mouth at the thought of an open end ^^ yeeeah…. :D
April 25, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Actually JM isn’t my favourite character therefore I haven’t really wonder much about him, but I think he’s John’s body and mind, with Tehrror’s instincts and some of Darius’ thoughts and memories…does this make sense?
What about Payne? What do you think about her?
April 26, 2008 at 5:12 pm
I just finished Kresley Cole’s “A Hunger like no Other,” and thought it was great. If you like heroes who say “MINE,” you’ll love this book.
April 28, 2008 at 12:12 pm
I just finished reading “If Angels Burn” – the first of the Darkyn novels. It reminded me so much of Lover Unbound. The heroine was even a doctor who ended up taking care of vamps.
May 9, 2008 at 10:40 am
after a short absence i’m back ^^
hmmm who’s the writer of if angel burns? because i’m in germany and getting englisch books is a pain so if i have the author i can get them in german :D ( i change language.. :D depends on how i feel ^^) so if anyone has any tips i’d love to hear them
i am getting so excited…. book six is out soon ^^
jm isnt my fav either but i do have loads of thoughts about him.. in the last books.. i have the feeling he’s important.. :D
do you guys think the baby and its mum will be ok? or will something happen? poor z if it does… :S but then again at the end of his book she wrote that the mum and baby came te him in the gymn sooooo everythings going to be ok :D
who else should have a baby?!
^^
May 9, 2008 at 1:00 pm
Hi there.
Sunny I took your advice and I bought “If Angels Burn”…I’m just waiting for it to arrive.
Brina, it’s a Lynn Viehl book.
Well, taking the risk of sounding just like my grandmother, I think all of them should have babies, lol, even Rhage, although it’s a bit difficult…having biological ones, I mean.
I just want to see their lives getting meaning, and for them to get happiness :)
May 11, 2008 at 3:27 pm
ahhhh thanks :D just have to write that down so i dont forget..
i am getting worse every week.. lol… i just keep thinking its nearly time its nearly time…. i am t toooooooo impatient for book 6 to come out.. ^^
May 11, 2008 at 3:33 pm
ok i should wait till i’m finished before i send off what i wrote.. laugh
hmmmm i find myself askingwho would be the best dad out of our warrior brothers… but then agai i think they all would be lovely dads… because they all have something special about them…
the series is about the brotherhood… so i’m also wondering why rev is goig to (?) get a book… hmmmmm i am dying to find oout who else is getting a book….
May 11, 2008 at 11:35 pm
On Goodreads there is a new group to discuss the BDB: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show_group/27485.Introduce_Yourself_
I am so glad someone else thinks there should be more babies in the series! How is Wrath going to repopulate his dying species if Z is the only one procreating? I love babies. I love babies in my romance novels. I would love this series more if there were more babies. Sadly, JR Ward wrote an interview with Wrath, and he isn’t planning on becoming a daddy for another 100 years or so. Fertility is a big theme in any paranormal romance, but especially in the BDB with the Chosen and Phury’s new job as stud. I wonder how Ward will address this theme in the upcoming book? It should be interesting!
May 14, 2008 at 8:44 am
I can’t believe it’s almost June. I’d like to say it seems like yesterday that Lover Unbound came out but I felt every single aching momemt waiting for the next book to finally get here… :-)
May 14, 2008 at 10:38 am
Also, thanks for the suggestion on “A Hunger Like No Other”. I enjoyed it. I also enjoyed Fantasy Lover. I’ve finally started the series as I’ve been wanting to for years. Any thoughts on Dark Prince by CF???
May 14, 2008 at 10:59 am
Sunny – You are welcome! I’m so happy to share good books with someone else! As for Dark Prince, it was not my cup of tea. I know a lot of people like CF, but her writing style jars me. I think it is because she does not change up sentence length or structure very much. If you like possessive Alpha Males I would definitely try her books, though, as many other people have loved them. Good luck!
Have you read C.L. Wilson’s Lord of the Fading Lands and Lady of Light and Shadow yet?
May 15, 2008 at 6:16 am
Well, that’s good to know! I thought it was just me with regard to the Dark Prince thing. I got to page 100 and moved on. It was just “empty”. That’s the only word I can use to describe it other than “lacking”. I’m currently finishing up Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series and the Kresley Cole’s series but i do have C.L. Wilson on my list. I believe it’s right behind Outlander. Of course, I’ll be taking a break shortly for Phury who trumps EVERYTHING! Thanks.
May 16, 2008 at 12:37 pm
I just read “If angels burn” and….I still don’t know exactly what to think…comparing to BDB is not necessary, because there’s no comparison possible… I didn’t hate it but I just don’t feel much about it, although some parts were ok, especially the Angelica thing I didn’t figured out it was “her”…
Sunny what did you think? Have anyone read the Darkyn series? Are the other books better/worse/ the same?
May 20, 2008 at 5:28 am
If Angels burn was “ok”. I prefer the Dark Hunter Novels (Kenyon) over the Darkyn series. I actually started the second book in the Darkyn series yesterday. I’ll let you know what I think once I’m done.
May 21, 2008 at 1:22 am
hello everyone!! its me again :D

Thanks Sunny! I’ve started to read Christina Dodd’s “The darkness Chosen”, the first book is very good, I’m waiting for the second one. Although it’s not about vampires. Does anyone knows these books?
About the BDB…Phury’s almost here, can’t wait, it’s been ages since I ordered the book, I’m so anxious, I bet the book clarifies lots of things, but…there must be other stuff to keep us wondering…

Sonia – Yes, I’ve read both Touch the Darkness and Scent the Darkness and really liked them. I only reviewed the first one: http://ciaralira.wordpress.com/2008/02/10/scent-of-darkness/
I haven’t read the Darkyn series yet. Is it good?
Sunny – ACHERON is coming soon!!!
My friend Scott is going to do a guest review soon on Dark Lover. Give us the male perspective. He thought it was crack too.

OMG, I read the first few sentences and could not believe that you feel EXACTLY the same as I do. I got hooked years ago on the Jamie/Clair Outlander series and have pegged all others based on that. I have all of Diana Galbaldon books in hard back. I was strictly a historical romance gal, until looking for a little, stimulation, I ventured out of the fold and read a few short vampire/fantasy ones. As I paged around Amazon, I cam across this series and ordered the first 3. I was hooked IMMEDIATELY!!! I spent the last 4 weeks reading all of them. I even bought Vishous book in CVS while still on order with Amazon with Enshrined, because I just finished Butch’s book and was so depressed, I had to read the next one, so I will now have 2 copies of Vishous book. I have to say that, though I do not live under a rock, I was still a bit taken aback by the writing style/language, but fell in step easily, as it really seemed to talk the way people actually talk. The sex was really hot and not some of the run of the mill happy happy joy joy stuff. It really seemed believable that you can come at least 3-4 times in one session. And considering that I have been married for 20 years, a little spice of that kind is sure worth trying if not reading about. Sounds like you are a girl after my own heart. Can you recommend other books, I think we could have very similar libraries…

Hey Sonia,
I finished the second Darkyn book. In the beginningit was hard to focus on it. There are a lot of story lines/plots being thrown at you and it doesn’t give you a chance to really become attached to any of the characters. About half way through the authour begins to tie them together and it becomes a page turner after that. With that said, if you can get past the random details in the beginning, you should be fine. Let me know what you think if you do.
Ciara,
I’m no where close to Acheron. I’m awaiting Night Embrace. Ha. It’s kind of a good thing though. At least I won’t have to wait on Acheron, Lover Enshrined, and Breaking Dawn all at the same time. Otherwise I might have developed a twitch. :-)

I just read on JR’s website that Phury and cormia will have a son and his nickname will be Aggie. He will be named after Phury and Zsadist’s father Ahgony.

Well Sunny, thanks for the “review”, lol When I’m bored to tears because there’s nothing else begging my attention, I’ll give it a try! And I’m also waiting for Breaking Dawn :)
Angie, if you register in the BDB message boards you’ll learn lots of interesting stuff about the world of BDB!
Ciaralira, I still haven’t read Touch of Darkness because it got stuck in the post mail offices and now I have to wait until friday because it’s only when I can go there and pick it…well, human beings surely know how to wait… and thanks for the review on Scent of Darkness :) the 3rd and 4th books are coming too, within a month from each other, july and august.

Anyone have any reviews on Outlander by Diana G.???
May 28, 2008 at 11:37 am
I ADORE outlander. Adore, adore, adore. It introduced me to the romance genre. I don’t care if it isn’t historically accurate. I heart Jamie. mmmmmmm. I’ve read the entire series, but not the Lord John spin offs.
I like this review of it: http://www.salon.com/books/feature/1999/08/12/outlander/

June 4, 2008 at 9:57 pm
AHHH!!!!
Phury’s book is one of the best yet!!! I have to admit that all things considered, I didn’t really enjoy Butch and V’s books all that much. Marissa’s character made me want to pull my hair out at times and what happens to Jane in the end of LU is ah…yeah so I was really worried that Phury’s book would be more of the same.
**I can’t wait to hear what you all thought of Lover Enshrined!!
June 5, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Unfortunally I’m one of the poor people who still haven’t read Lover Enshrined because Amazon had this awful delay…
I guess it will be dispatched tomorrow, but I’m dying here, lol
June 7, 2008 at 6:43 pm

hmmm i kinda didnt like the whole ghost thing either.. kind silly but hell never mind ^^ at least th*re together.. though considering how many females of the bdb aren’t able to have babies is worring ^^ i want to see more babies.. lol i dont know why but i just do lol

Ok, so I’ve been so into this Outlander thing that I haven’t started Phury yet. Anyone have any reviews of the new book?
June 18, 2008 at 6:40 pm
I have only read the first one, but the moment I finished it, I went online and bought the rest of the series. I’m so excited to read them. Zsadist has got to be my favorite, and on her site, she says he’s her favorite too. And, is it just me, or does everyone get the feeling something really bad is going to happen to Tohr? How else is she going to do a book about him?
June 21, 2008 at 2:57 am

hey can any 1 tell me what POS STANDS FOR?
March 1, 2009 at 10:53 am
Hey everyone, I just finished the series of BDB that has been written so far. Um… love it. OMG Hollywood is totally hot, along with Wrath, and I agree with the “Mine” thing, oh shivers. For some reason I love John Mathews, come on that poor kid, it’s weird because you read about the change and then it happens to JM and it was like wooo. I felt like it really happened and you kind of were living through. So far I have come to the conclusion that I love the books because you read the first one and it’s like, I can’t possible fall as hard as I did in the next book and then you read it and your like crap, I fell for him too. And I love the brotherhood, how they act together and how they are these strong warriors and treat their women so well, and in the last book I felt like everything started to come apart. Like it wasn’t only a love story but you see their world changing, as in power.

I love your site…..Has anyone read Necroscope by Brian Lumley?
