Persuasion

Book it! Repertory Theater performed a lovely adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion last night at the Center House Theater. I recommend it, though I also recommend watching the Masterpiece film version first or reading the book to familiarize yourself with the story ahead of time. The characters are hard to identify otherwise, since some of the actors play more than one character and in the first act all the women wear white. I really enjoyed seeing Regency costumes brought to life. One question though- why did the costume designer put a big zipper in the back of the hero’s trousers? And what were those odd half circle cut-outs on the bottom of the heroine’s skirt? I’ve decided to sew myself a spencer and start a new fashion trend.
