Character Sketch: my Heroine

Yesterday, after completing edits on my first two chapters and synopsis and sending them in to a contest, I decided to make character sketches instead of writing more. My pictures are limited by the magazines and catalogues I have: The Economist, Backpacker, Martha Stewart Living, JCrew and Victoria Secret. I didn’t get many photos of my hero, but Martha had a great big picture of an old fashioned sailing vessel that was perfect for him.

This is my collage of my Heroine. For those of you who have read the first few chapters (Daddy and Laura), do you think my vision of her character comes out in my writing?

  1. Great job on volunteering today! I love your character sketch! I’ve never done one, though it looks like fun. From the small portion you read I can totally see your heroine in that sketch.

You have a great story going on, Ciara! It was a lot of fun. Best of luck with it!

  2. Hi, Ciara,

I also think I see a lot of your heroine in this sketch – especially the part in the lower right where she’s reading a book and imaginine herself in the ball gown. The only discrepancy that I *think* I see is that your sketch makes her seem a little more glamorous than she seems in the story – of course this could have something to do with the magazines you had ;) This could have to do with her more athletic look and emphasis in the beginning about her not having the right dress for the time period also, of course.

    A beautiful collage! Great work!!

It’s hard not to look glamourous when you’re modeling for Victoria Secret. ;) I need to look through someone’s old running & exercising mags.
